Kate SaysWhen selecting fabrics for your quilt project, don’t spend too much time deliberating. Set the clock and give yourself just a couple minutes to pick colors and prints based on your instincts. When you sew with colors that you feel strongly about, you’ll connect with what you’re making on a deeper level. You can always refine your selections to include more contrast, but by starting this way, you’ll create personal palettes that you will love.

Kate Spain lives in Bridgeport, Connecticut with her husband Pete and their three adored quilt-loving “helper” cats, Franny, Lou and Roscoe.
Kate is a Rhode Island School of Design-trained artist who started her design licensing business in 2008. She has had the privilege of collaborating with companies like Crate & Barrel, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, The Container Store and others. She is especially grateful for her ongoing collaboration with the talented team at Moda Fabrics that enabled her to connect with a vibrant, active and creative community. Kate made her first quilt in 2009 when her first line of fabric, Verna, was released. To date, she has created 25 original fabric collections for Moda and is working on #26! Her newest collection, Early Bird, is due to ship to quilt shops in March. Here are two patterns Kate designed that highlight this line: https://kdspain.com/patterns/)

During the warm months when she is not designing, Kate can be found with Pete sharing time in their backyard caring for the garden they created together. “I find so much of my inspiration in our garden…colors, shapes, textures, proportions, contrasts and mostly importantly, a deep sense of happiness that I try to bring into my designs as much as possible.”

And during the winter months, Kate can be found dreaming of a colorful spring!
