So many people are enjoying Quilt as You Go techniques (QAYG) that I want to give you a tip for doing that with your Splendid Sampler. If you can decide on a layout for your blocks from the book, then sew ‘units’ of blocks together before you quilt them. These larger units will save you a lot of time when you assemble your QAYG pieces. This class with Marti explains very well how to do that. She also has a book if you prefer that.

If you are looking for a jump start of fabric, Jane I and worked with the Fat Quarter shop to curate 2 different color bundles of 20 Fat Quarters each. We wanted you to be able to work with the colors and try some blocks, then you can add to this.

Variety really is the spice of life for the Splendid Sampler project. Most people like have at least 35 to 40 different fabrics (sometimes way more). Then add basic to be used to tie the colors together. Some people use the basic for the ‘background’ of each block or as an accent color that is in many blocks.

Jennifer Says “When starting any new quilt or project, start with the “why”. That “why” will keep you inspired to stitch to the end and give you that amazing gratification that comes from creating and completing something. And remember, shop local…it matters!”

Jennifer, along with her parents and sister own Quiltique in Henderson, Nevada. It’s a gorgeous big shop with loads of Inspiration.

Jan Tibesar says “We want people to feel like they’re coming to see their quilt store family, We want them to feel good while they’re here.”
