Announcing! Meet-Up in the Middle

A Party to Share Your Splendid Sampler Blocks and Meet Quilters and Block Designers

This is going to be an outrageously fun get-together of Splendid Sampler designers and ‘Splenderettes’ in Syracuse on July 28. Mark your calendar, put the finishing touches on your Splendid blocks – doesn’t matter if you’ve completed 2 or 20 – and get yourself to Calico Gals on July 28 at 5:30. Many thanks to Calico Gals and Joan Ford (Splendid Sampler block #84 designer, Hummingbird Highway owner, and Syracuse resident) for organizing this event for us! 

Joan and I have been talking about this for a few weeks and she has done all the work to get it organized. I’ll be Teaching at the Quilt show that week and I hope you signed up for my classes! My CLASS INFO, I think there are still a few spots! 

So how did this get going? I asked Joan to tell you!

P: I love this event! How did the idea for a Meet-Up get started?

J: I think it started with something you shared with the Splendid Sampler design team. You’d been at an event and several Splendid Sampler sewists approached you to show you their blocks. I remember how fun you said it was. All these connections we’re making online are real people making really fun blocks, and real people are on the other side designing them. A party at the halfway point of the block releases seemed like a nice way to put faces to fabric to designs to blocks. Kinda like completing the picture.

P: But why Syracuse for the meeting spot?

J: I knew that you’d be speaking and teaching at the Syracuse AQS show in July. I live in Syracuse, and I knew that several other SS designers might be interested in coming together for the event. And there are plenty of Splendid Sewists in central New York and nearby locations who might enjoy a good excuse to swing through Syracuse, especially with so much happening here in the summer time. Plus, at the end of July, we’re going to be just about half way through the block introductions. It all just made sense!

P: Calico Gals is our host for the event. How did that come about?

J: With so many quilters already headed to Syracuse for the AQS show, plus quilters want to visit Calico Gals in the summer, because that’s where Row by Row Experience originated. I suspect there might be a lot of cross over between those making the Splendid blocks and those who might be traveling and collecting rows this summer. It was easy to text my friend Janet Lutz—she’s the owner of Calico Gals–to make arrangements to meet at the store after the show and after regular store hours. She’ll keep the store open for us, just in case anyone wants to make a purchase– you know, maybe some HomeTown Girl precuts, or a ScrapTherapy book or two? *((I am very fond of Joan’s scrap books, you should own them!))

P: So, it’ll be you and me representing the designers?

J: Yes, we’ll be there for sure – but Jacquelynne Steves (Block #76) is coming in from New Jersey and Michelle Foster (Block #24, Inspector Sidekick).

And Debby Brown, our fabulous Splendid Sampler machine quilting tip-master are planning to attend as well. And, of course, the quilters!

P: So, if I’m a quilter making the Splendid Sampler blocks and I want to attend, what should I do?

J: This is a free event, so you just have to gather your blocks together and come on out. An RSVP will help Calico Gals plan the refreshments, so, if you’re planning to come to the Meet-Up in the Middle, just call (315-445-0617) or email the store (store@calicogals.com) and let them know you’re coming. That’s it! And just keep stitching, of course! The pictures online are impressive, but it’s nothing like seeing them in person. Personally, I can’t wait!
