Jane and I love having fun…. throw in a Derby Hat challenge… 30,000 of our best quilt friends and you have a great weekend planned!
The Kentucky Derby horse race is held annually in Louisville, KY on the first Saturday in May. The race is known as “The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports” and is also called “The Run for the Roses” because a blanket of roses is draped over the winner. It is the first leg of the American Triple Crown and is followed by the Preakness Stakes, then the Belmont Stakes. The Kentucky Derby has been run every consecutive year since 1875. There are fun parties like the one above, held in towns all across the country!
Here at the Splendid Sampler we want you to be ready for tomorrow by creating your own Kentucky Derby Fancy Hat to wear to the race!

- The cool containers
- Aurifil Thread
- our favorite Heat n Bond Lite for fusing
- Purple accessories, the rotary cutter is amazing!
