The Shell block is based on my first quilt. I attended my first quilting class with my friend Rosie and we made a hand pieced, hand quilted queen sized quilt each. I designed the 13″ blocks with 24 pieces, all lovingly drawn from templates and cut with scissors. I used American quilting cotton for the blocks but skimped on the sashing and backing only to unpick it all years later. One day I will re-sash and finish the quilt. One day ……. ( and I will cheat and use my longarm to quilt it ).

It would have been so nice to have a rotary cutter back in 1983 when cutting the shell blocks. There is nothing like an ergonomic rotary cutter with a sharp blade to slice through layers of quilting cotton when cutting out your quilt. The Olfa 45mm is comfortable to hold and slices through 6 layers of fabric with its tungsten steel blade. Buy here.
