I’m the other half of the design team that created ‘The Splendid Sampler’. I’m Jane Davidson and my other half is Pat Sloan who introduced herself in this post.
I have a love affair with quilting which started when I was about 19. I have always been a bit of a crafty person and can honestly say I wake up every morning happy in the fact that I love what I do.
I have no fear of colour and will jump at the opportunity to add vibrance to my quilts using a mixture of prints and textures. The more scrappier, the more I feel it reflects the colours of nature.
I have a soft spot for neutrals too.
Fussy cutting intrigues me and I often use its qualities in quilt making, especially in english paper piecing.
My designs often include appliqué (and Dresdens).
There are so many things about quilting that make my job fun ……
Teaching, publishing, designing, quilt market, long arming to name a few. …..
I love to teach and am happy to travel anywhere to meet enthusiastic quilters from all over the globe.
Designing is my favourite part of the quilting experience. I jump at the opportunity to make an original pattern for a magazine or book. In 2014 I took on the challenge of self publishing and hence, ‘Desert to Sea, 10 quilts from Australian Designers’ was created.
I have published many quilt patterns that can be found here and recently published patterns with Moda. One dear to my heart is the nested churn dash quilt.
Long arm quilting is also a passion. There is nothing more rewarding than adding the finishing touches to a quilt through the art of thread.
Oh and not to forget my trusty sidekick – Jasper Carrot. My faithful companion while I quilt.
While looking for photos for this post I found my a picture of my first sampler (bottom, right hand corner) and the Desperate House Wife Quilt sampler. In 2014 I was involved in the Aurifil Designer BOM. It was fun to make the blocks into spools for the setting.
I am very excited about The Splendid Sampler. My 10 blocks are a combination of appliqué, embroidery, English Paper piecing, piecing and paper piecing. I used them all so every one could discover a new technique or revisit an old one.
